How to Setup a Brother Printer QL 820NWB?

Wi-Fi configuration of QL 820NWB

Unbox and configure the printer

  1. Unbox your printer.
  2. Insert badges.
  3. If you need to order badges, you can purchase Brother DK-1202 model badges from the retailer of your choice.
  4. Assemble and insert the roll of badges into the printer.
  5. Plug the black power cord into the printer and a power socket.
  6. Press the power button to turn on the printer. Make sure the green status light comes on.
  7. Use the [▲], [▼] and [OK] buttons to set your language, the time and date as prompted.
  8. If you’re not already on the main screen, navigate there now using [↩] button.
  9. Press the [Menu] button.
  10. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > WLAN (On/Off) > On in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  11. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > Infra Manual Setting in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  12. Your printer will search for available Wi-Fi networks. Remember, your printer and iPad should be on the same network.
The Brother printer only supports connections to 2.4 GHz wireless band. If you are using a dual-band router, your iPad(s) can remain connected to the 5 GHz band and your printer can connect to the 2.4 GHz band.
  1. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select your desired network. Press OK.
  2. Provide your password.
  3. Look at the top right on the screen. Press [Menu] to switch between uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  4. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select the correct characters.
  5. If it connects, it will say “Connected!” Press [OK].If it does not connect, repeat steps from Power up to Providing password.
  6. Press the [↩] button to return to the main screen. You should see the Wi-Fi icon in the top right.

Find the IP address

  1. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select WLAN > WLAN Status > Infrastructure Mode in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  2. Beside IP Address, you’ll see the IP address. It will be a series of numbers separated by periods (for example 192.168.1.44 or 10.0.1.23).
  3. Use arrow key to scroll down, you will find wifi mac address here.

  1. Unbox your printer.
  2. Insert badges.

  4. Assemble and insert the roll of badges into the printer.
  5. Plug the black power cord into the printer and a power socket.
  6. Press the power button to turn on the printer. Make sure the green status light comes on.
  7. Use the [▲], [▼] and [OK] buttons to set your language, the time and date as prompted.
  8. If you’re not already on the main screen, navigate there now using [↩] button.
  9. Press the [Menu] button.
  10. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select Bluetooth > Bluetooth (On/Off) > On in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  11. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select Bluetooth > Automatic Reconnection > On in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  12. Press the [↩] button to return to the main screen. You should see the Bluetooth icon in the top right.

Pairing printer with iPad

  1. On your iPad, open the Settings app. Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Ensure that Bluetooth is turned on.
  3. Under Devices, look for Brother QL-820NWBxxxx, like “Brother QL-820NWB1234.
The series of 4 digits at the end of the device name identifies your specific printer. We recommend writing these digits on the back or bottom of your printer.

  1. Close the iPad Settings app and open the Vizmo app.

Find the IP address

  1. Use the [▲] and [▼] buttons to select Bluetooth > Bluetooth Status in the settings menu. Press [OK].
  2. Beside Mac Address, you’ll see the Mac address. It will be a series of Hexadecimal characters (for example 00:80:77:90:0a:8c)
  3. Use arrow key to scroll down, you will find wifi mac address here.

Pair the printer with Vizmo

  1. On your desktop, log in to Vizmo Portal, and go to Devices > Add Printers.
  2. Select Brother QL-820NWB.
  3. Select Wi-fi/bluetooth.
  4. Type your IP address in the field for wifi and mac address for bluetooth
  5. Select Kiosk to pair this printer with a particular Kiosk,
  6. Click on Add.


Enable badge printing

  1. Go to Visitors > Settings > Visitor Types.
  2. Select the visitor type you wish to edit.
  3. Select Badge from the left navigation.
  4. Toggle Print Badges to the “on” position.

If you have multiple visitor types, you’ll configure badge printing per visitor type.


Test printing

  1. Turn on your iPad.
  2. Open the Vizmo kiosk app.

If you have multiple visitor types, choose a visitor type that has badge printing enabled. If a badge does not automatically print, please contact us.


We recommend having your IT team set up a static IP address. Using a static IP address will provide you with continuous connectivity to your printer. In other words, you’ll never have to worry about your IP address getting reset.


Reset factory settings

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold the cut button while simultaneously pressing the power button.
  3. Wait for the Wi-Fi light to flash and the status light to go orange.
  4. Press the cut button twice while still holding the power button. Release the power button.
  5. All network settings are reset.
